Seth Mazibuko
At only sixteen years of age, Seth Mazibuko was the youngest member of the South African Students’ Organisation, which led the 1976 Soweto Uprising. Despite his youth, Seth was one of the most prominent leaders of the uprising. Seth paid a heavy price for his contribution towards South Africa’s democratic struggle, spending 18 months in solitary confinement before being sent to Robben Island for seven years. Like many other political prisoners, Seth made the most of his time on the island, studing English and completing a B. Ed. degree.
